From 1945-47 when the war was over, he remained in the Royal Indian Navy,
but carried out a civil maritime role in Bombay as senior nautical surveyor of ships (as a foreign going master this was a role for which he was specifically qualified). Emigrated to NZ, 1947, where he worked as a Nautical Surveyor.
